I've figured out that we will spend in total, 22.5 hours in the boat on the great whale search. Actual time in the water is approximately 90 minutes. Is it worth it?
That's always the question.
A baby doesn't smile at her parents often until the third month. Was it worth having the baby? Of course.
An author spends thousands of hours writing ten books that never sell, and then finally, a sale. Was it worth it?
We hike for days to reach Maccu Piccu. It was worth it.
Experience is the whole. The leading up to, the waiting for, the winding down. No one can stand on a mountain top without having walked the trail. No book sale happened without the hours it took creating and typing.
On day 4, we spotted a few whales but we never got in the water. The seas were super choppy. Wind spray, waves crashing over the bow and the sides of the boat. In these rough conditions, it would be easy to get seasick.
But instead, I sat on the side of the boat, the big inflated sides, put my leg in the water, held onto the handgrip and rode the boat like a mechanical bull. Hair in the wind, face and hair covered in salt water, embracing what the world had to offer instead of what I had planned and wanted.
Life doesn't adapt to us.
We adapt to life.
