A Cat Parable

The Parable of the Cat

My mother’s father hated cats; I suspect a grandparent and a great-grandparent did too. Naturally, Mom inherited a strong repulsion to felines. I was supposed to have it too, right?

I avoided cats. Never had one. Hated when I found cat hairs in my food while at my daughter’s house. As a guest in different people’s homes, I’d shooo’d away sleeping cats curled in my bed.

Last weekend as a guest in a cat owner’s home, I saw Cat-Louis as charming, mysterious, innovative, and found it quite silly after all these years to have disliked cats only because my mother’s father had passed down the prejudice.

In the end, I’d found a friend.

PS: It's much more difficult to get a good selfie with a cat than just a photo of a cat.
