First Pair of Shoes

Scroll slowly through these photos.

According to his mother, the little guy wouldn't budge for ten minutes--red faced and angry, spewing sounds and making facial expressions that turned into an epic diatribe aimed at his parents' hearts.

How dare you. He seemed to say.

Who asked me if I wanted shoes? He seemed to ask, and finally,

Get me out of these. Now!

And then, he took a step. And another.

This child is a mirror for anyone who is honest with herself.

New circumstances may trigger revolt, especially if put upon us by someone else. Perhaps the circumstances merit revolt; we should act instead of being acted upon. Yet, nothing is better than change when needed, even if someone else slaps on the restraint.

A cliche for the situation: if the shoe fits wear it.
